David Carter’s story has been told in the national press and he shares graciously his strategies on his popular blog. Said David; “Well the thing is, I was in business when I started – I ran an IT Recruitment business, but hated it, so I began investing in names and hanging out at Afternic.

David-Carter believes in the dash – and opportunities borne from watching business trends and government legislation. Carter launched a thriving asbestos mediation business from his native Birmingham, England, after the European Union passed rules regulating the product. From a simple launch four years ago, today AsbestosSurveys.com closes 60% of its daily inquiries, with one resulting in a $500,000 contract in Malta. “My biggest click ever,” he enthuses. “I guess it’s a good little business model…That’s one of the things I’m preaching to fellow domainers who want to monetize their sites beyond PPC.” And about those dashes? A remarkable copywriter, Carter’s watched Google embrace the hyphen, and now buys most of his domains in sets – with, and without, the dash.
